The Concept
Familiar melodies take on a darker character in the shadows of New Orleans.
An eerie harmonica introduces “House of the Rising Sun” before the full band breaks through. A jazz treatment of Danse macabre features bass clarinet, while a trumpet solo leads “I Put a Spell on You” into an expansive, expressive ballad.
A quiet return to “House of the Rising Sun” offers a moment of calm. Then a clarinet, trumpet, and trombone trio draws the music into the closer, exchanging phrases with the band before the ensemble builds to an ominous, overpowering finish.
