The Concept
The Hammer explores the tension between force and anticipation. Inspired by the famous hammer blows in Mahler’s Symphony No. 6, the show builds toward moments of overwhelming impact, creating a sense of weight, pressure, and inevitability as the music repeatedly drives toward release.
The concept remains intentionally abstract, allowing ensembles to shape their own visual interpretation. Staging, movement, color, and form can reinforce ideas of tension, impact, resistance, and expectation without requiring one specific story.
